Recycled Shelf Liners for Superdrug

Our shelf liner for Superdrug was not only manufactured completely from recycled material but at the end of its ‘shelf life’ it could then be fully recycled to provide material for a range of products – a sustainable product lifecycle solution.
With our extensive understanding of material, Wrights Plastics were able to develop, as an alternative to virgin material, a 100% recycled solution.
In total the project saw us manufacture over 50,000 components. Our in-house team collated over 100,000 POS stripping elements and we successfully rolled out the project to over 600 Superdrug stores across the UK
Environmental benefits included

  • Over 17 tonnes of recycled material used.
  • PVC uses less non-renewable fossil fuel to make than any other commodity plastic.
  • Switch to new manufacturing process maximised efficiency & accuracy.
  • Carbon footprint further reduced by using recycled material from the UK in place of instead of virgin granules imported from the USA.
  • At the end of the products lifespan the PVC can be fully recycled & used in the manufacture of many products.
Sustainable POS Shelf Liners for Superdrug

We have developed a sustainable POS shelf liner that is helping one of the UK’s leading cosmetic retailer reduce its impact on the environment.

Our shelf liner was not only manufactured completely from recycled material but at the end of its ‘shelf life’ the liner could be fully recycled to provide material for a range of products – a sustainable product lifecycle solution.

In late 2018 Wrights Plastics was awarded the tender to provide Hair Colourants shelf liners to Superdrug’s full estate. The liner was designed to fit on all types of shelving giving additional space for branding & shopper education.

Previously the shelf liner had been manually line bent but to maximise output & ensure consistent accuracy an extrusion tool was commissioned to produce the volume required.

Superdrug are rightly proud of their environmental achievements and have ambitious recycling targets so having won the competitive tender, ASW’s Fixture Development Team asked Wrights Plastics to develop an option manufactured from recycled material as an alternative to the original specification.

With our extensive understanding of material, Wrights Plastics were able to develop, as an alternative to virgin material, a shelf liner made from 100% recycled material. Using fully recycled white PVC material potentially leads to some colour variation, inclusions, rippling & surface pitting. In fact our 50 years manufacturing expertise ensured the actual product had only minor surface pitting which was not detrimental to the overall look & feel once on shelf.

In total the project saw us manufacture over 50,000 components. Our in-house team collated over 100,000 POS stripping elements and we successfully rolled out the project to over 600 Superdrug stores across the UK

At the end of the products lifespan the liner can be stripped of the SEL ticket holder & sent for recycling – perpetuating the life of the material.

Dwell time for customers has been significantly reduced with easier shelf identification whilst Superdrug can identify another step towards their sustainability goals.
