Collaboration Proved A Light Bulb Moment for ELTA Automotive

Our first project with one of Europe’s major automotive component distributors saw us develop brand-enhancing cost-saving and durable display units for two of their bestselling bulb brands.

ELTA Automotive Ltd is an independent, family-owned business, which was formed in 1993. Today, ELTA is a major automotive component importer, distributor and a licensee of the iconic Lucas brand supplying motor factors and retailers throughout the world from its locations in the UK and Europe. Available brands include Lucas, Xevo, Qlux, VXPRO and VisionPRO.

Underwhelmed by the commitment of their previous supplier, ELTA Automotive approached us to develop and manufacture bulb stands for their Lucas and Vision Pro ranges. ELTA provided a brief and prototype and challenged us to produce a cost-effective display unit that can withstand the bumps & knocks of a typical vehicle service centre.

ELTA Automotive approached us to develop and manufacture bulb stands for their Lucas and Vision Pro ranges

Firstly our design team worked on the design to create a value-engineered solution that maximised the unit’s strength as well as increasing the amount of product the stand could hold.

With our extensive inhouse facilities we were able to produce working rapid prototypes throughout the product development – allowing the client to get ‘hands-on’ during the process.

Revised graphic design helped staff and customers find the exact bulb more easily

Once approved all aspects of the multi-part manufacturing was carried out inhouse – this reduced the carbon footprint of the project, as well as shortened production turnaround. The sustainability of the project was also increased by Wrights Plastics’ ongoing investment in ultra-efficient state-of-the-art machinery that reduces energy use and minimises material waste.

The materials used in making the stand are all 100% recyclable at the end of the product life-cycle.

The project used many of our core fabrication skills including plastic laser cutting, patten pressing, CNC routing, line bending, colour matching digital print, gluing and assembly.

To date we have made over 3000 units which can be found in ELTA stockists around the UK – helping our client build brand recognition and boost sales.

A Dazzling Solution

Behind its apparently simple styling was a complex unit that involved up to 9 different parts manufactured in three different materials. A multi-part dispensing cassette with hinged front cover was fitted into a durable body and then a branded surround completed the build.

The project used many of our core fabrication skills including acrylic fabrication, laser cut plastic, patten pressing, CNC routing, line bending, colour matching digital print, cemeting and assembly.

To date we have made over 3000 units which can be found in ELTA stockists around the UK – helping our client build brand recognition and boost sales.

ELTA’s automotive bulbs are “manufactured to the very highest standards using premium quality materials to ensure both high performance and reliability” and those are the same brand values we apply to all our work.
